Basis Technology Enhances Digital Media Investigations With Autopsy 3.1
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 26, 2014 — Basis Technology, the global leader in multilingual Big Text analytics and digital forensics solutions, today announced the availability of Autopsy 3.1, the latest version of its flagship open source digital forensics platform. Autopsy is a free and open source Windows-based digital forensics platform that has been built to provide an intuitive workflow for users in the Law Enforcement, Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Incident Response communities.
Autopsy 3.1 adds a number of major features, including:
- Parallelized processing for faster data analysis
- Android mobile device support (MMS, SMS, Contacts, and Call Logs)
- File signature identification and mismatch detection
- Better hash database management capabilities
In particular, the Android mobile device support marks the additions of features that have traditionally been only found in commercial tools.
“This version of the Autopsy Platform marks the most performant and easy to use release to date,” said Brian Carrier, Vice President of Digital Forensics. “Our new features give both government and commercial users the ability to glean actionable information from a variety of digital media and devices for free. We’re constantly evolving the platform, listening to our users, and pushing the traditional expectations of open source software.”
Demand for a solution like Autopsy has been amplified by diminishing budgets and the increase in the quantity and variety of data that examiners need to sift through. Autopsy comes with a standard set of capabilities to cover a broad array of digital media investigation use cases. In addition, the platform can be customized for different data sources, formats, and workflows (something Basis has done for numerous government entities). The platform has been used to create customized forensic laboratory applications as well as easy to use software for field users.
Autopsy 3.1 is available immediately free of charge via download at http://www.basistech.com/autopsy/.
Basis Technology also provides commercial support and training for the platform, including an online session scheduled for September 24-25, 2014. More information can be found at http://www.basistech.com/autopsy/training/.
